I can charm pythons for you

I am Honza Javorek, independent
web apps creator and Python developer
from Brno, Czech Republic.

I am

I am systematic and precise, communicative, flexible and have a passion to learn new things. I can do the impossible if my work has a purpose. I love to analyse and solve unconventional and challenging problems. I dislike routine tasks that restrict my ability to be innovative.

I believe less is more. Smaller and simpler is better than large and complex. I do not like using complicated solutions because everyone does. I look for simple options and alternative possibilities and solutions.

I love

After 5 years of professional PHP experience I switched to Python in 2010 and fell in love with it immediately. I am very passionate about getting as much experience as possible using Python in the shortest time I can.

Python

I learn

I learn every day. Even though I have recently completed my university education, I constantly seek information about new technology and trends. For example, these days I attend M101: MongoDB for Developers course by 10gen.

I code

More specifically, I love to code. I do it even when I do not have to. Have a look at my GitHub profile.

I was part of a team working on a very complex SaaS app for film festivals, Eventival. I freelanced for 5 years under the javorek.net brand name to enhance my skills in creating commercial sites, e-shops, portals, intranet, and some hobby sites. I worked on projects for both commercial and specialised web dev companies and also for large institutions.

I created a Facebook mashup called ConcertIn, which offers users concerts that they might like to go and see. I also designed and built a large app Mergado, a Feedburner for e-shops, which processes hundreds of XML exports daily. In my free time I code Žít kino, an open-source site which provides an overview of Brno cinema film screening times and I started python.cz as a homepage for the Czech Python community.

I share

I wrote several articles which were published in the Czech online magazine for web developers, Zdroják. I also run my own blog here on honzajavorek.cz. On occasion, I attend local meetups and give small presentations about some topics that may be of interest to others (e.g. about CSS preprocessors or Celery).

I organise

As the local Python community in Brno was very small, I started PyVo meetup for which I organise regular monthly events in beer & talks style. When the PyVo meetup gained some followers and respect, it helped to revive the whole Czech Python community. Energy behind PyVo escalated to unite the local Python community under the one brand and to support their co-operation. This is also represented by the creation of the common homepage for Czech Python community at python.cz.

I also helped to organise a small local conference about shopping-search engines.

I attend

I like to join local professional communities. I have attended Barcamps and developer days. Since they have started in 2008, I have not missed any Prague WebExpo conferences. I will also be attending RuPy 2012.

I dream

I dream about a job that does not tie me down. I dream about travelling around the world and working remotely from any destination. I do not need any employment benefits such as a PlayStation or a children's slide in the office, healthcare insurance or paid vacations. If you are prepared to give me a contract based on my business licence that offers me the freedom and funds to support it, I am prepared to give you the best of my innovative and creative ability, my happy nature, loyalty and the results you desire.

I am also open to work as an employee, but it would have to meet the conditions I dream about.

Passion

Does your product make a better world? Might I be passionate about it?

Telecommuting

I wish to work from home. Let me do what I do best and to my rules. I will visit you as often as necessary to discuss the work with the team. Weekly, monthly, whatever fits the project needs. In case of emergency I can be in your office daily for a week or two, just recommend me a good hostel.

Money

Make me believe I cannot make the same amount in one week of selling WordPress sites.

Python & Friends

Please, no more PHP, MySQL, Apache. Do you use Nginx, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Node.js, Redis, Riak, ElasticSearch, ...?

Knowledge Boost

I do not want to teach juniors right now. The very opposite! Let me be taught and challenged to learn more new things. Please, give me the opportunity to finally start practising test driven development!

Challenge & Adventure

Hundreds of websites with welcome pages and contact forms? A waste of my brain cells! I need to design or code something challenging.

I travel

I love long-distance travelling but I dislike daily transport overheads. I would like my work to be based on a combination of working from home in Brno and travelling. I like Brno and I am very happy here spending my time with family and friends. Besides, you would not want to let down the Brno Python meetup (which I organise) by relocating me elsewhere, would you?
